By volunteering to work at the Lenovo Center as part of the West Johnston High School Band Parent Association crew, families have the opportunity to support the band program while gaining valuable experiences and building lasting friendships within the band community.
Volunteers work a variety of exciting events including professional hockey games, ACC basketball games, concerts, seminars, and other large public events. Whether it is your first time working concessions or you are already experienced in food service, Lenovo Center provides a fun, fast-paced environment where parents and students work together as a team.
In addition to helping support the band program financially, volunteering at Lenovo Center allows parents and students to:
-
Meet and connect with other band families
-
Experience the excitement of professional sporting events and concerts
-
Learn customer service and teamwork skills
-
Gain experience working in a large-scale concessions and catering environment
-
Earn credits toward a student’s Fair Share responsibility for programs such as Marching Band, Winter Guard, and Winter Percussion
The WJHS BPA concession crew is an important part of the organization’s annual fundraising efforts. Through its partnership with Lenovo Center, the BPA staffs a concession stand during:
-
Carolina Hurricanes hockey games
-
NC State basketball games
-
Concerts and entertainment events
-
Additional special events throughout the year
This fundraising opportunity contributes approximately $15,000 annually to support the West Johnston Band Program. These funds help provide essential support for music purchases, equipment, transportation, instructional staff, clinicians, uniforms, and other program needs. Because of the importance of this fundraiser, maintaining proper staffing for scheduled events is critical to fulfilling the organization’s contractual obligations.

More Than Fundraising
Working at Lenovo Center is more than just a fundraiser — it creates a sense of camaraderie among families and gives parents and students the opportunity to work side-by-side in support of the band program. Many parents describe the environment as energetic, rewarding, and one of the best ways to become involved within the organization.
