West Johnston Concert Ensembles

The core of our band program are our Concert Ensembles. Every Band/Guard student must be in an in-class ensemble to be a part of our other groups. These ensembles have no charge and do not mean you're a part of any other group (e.x. Marching Band).

Ensembles:
Beginning Band (1st Period) - This ensemble is for students who have never played an instrument before! If you didn't try band in middle school or want to be a part of something bigger than yourself, this is the group for you! Instruments include: Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba and Percussion. Note - you WILL need to rent or have your own instrument if you don't choose an instrument the school has (Tenor Saxophone, French Horn, Euphonium, Bari Saxophone, Tuba or Percussion).

Symphonic Band (3rd Period) - This non-auditioned ensemble is for our students who have played in middle school or high school but have not made the Wind Ensemble yet. Consisting of mostly freshmen/sophomores, this ensemble is still had to high standards and expectations as our wind ensemble, although the sophistication and quantity of the music will be lower/less than our top group.

Wind Ensemble (4th Period) - This is our top ensemble that consists mainly of Juniors and Seniors. Auditions occur in class around March each year. This ensemble performs band works of a variety of styles and is our marquee group within our concert program.

Performances:
Fall Concert - Mid-October - Themes vary each year.
Christmas Collab - 2nd Thurs/Fri of December - All Ensembles are a part of our Christmas Collabs each year.
Midwinter Concert - February
Music Performance Assessment - March - Judged performance at an off-site venue.
Final Concert - May
